Hairspring
Clocks · Apple Watch and Apple TV
Time as movement, not digits.
Hairspring draws the clock with thin threads. Each second is a label tied to the minute by a physical string, so time reads as something being pulled along instead of a number being replaced. The whole app exists for that one gesture, done carefully.
- Four faces on Apple Watch — Orbit, Dial, Chimes and Stars, all built for a glance and a raised wrist.
- Six faces on Apple TV — a quiet ambient clock for the room, with its own palette and motion character.
- Built for low energy — bounded animation windows, reduced rates in Always On and on the TV, dark colours and slow drift to avoid a static highlight.
- Buttery where it counts — the motion is deliberate and short; there is no perpetual particle system running behind it.
- Watch complications — a minute-scale reading and a quick way into the app from a compatible watch face.
- Offline, always — the clocks run with no network at all. Purchase checks and restores go through the App Store.
What it is, and what it is not
Hairspring is a native watchOS and tvOS app. On the TV you open it yourself to turn the television into a quiet ambient clock, and you choose whether it keeps showing, dims, or ends after a set time. It is not a system screensaver: it cannot take over while another app is idle, and it cannot turn your television off. On the Watch it does not replace the system watch face — the complication is an entry point, and Always On behaviour belongs to watchOS.
Drifting, dimming and dark colours reduce static highlights on an OLED panel. They are not a guarantee against burn-in on every display, and no fixed power saving is claimed.
Price
Apple Watch is free. Apple TV includes a seven-day trial inside the app, then a one-time in-app unlock ($2.99) with Family Sharing — no subscription. Restore Purchase is available on the TV app with the same Apple Account.
