Privacy Policy
Ordbro is built so the developer never sees your data. This policy explains exactly what is sent where.
What Ordbro does
Ordbro is a Safari extension for macOS. It translates the page you are reading, and the subtitles of a video you are watching, using a translation service that you choose and pay for directly.
The developer operates no server for Ordbro. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and the developer never receives your data.
What leaves your Mac
Text you ask to translate — visible page text, or subtitle lines in batches of up to 40 lines plus a few lines of surrounding context — is sent to the translation provider you selected, together with the page or programme title and a short synopsis where that helps the translation stay consistent. Requests are authenticated with your own API key and are handled under that provider's terms and privacy policy.
To find subtitles, the extension contacts the site's own services in the same way its player does. Those requests are anonymous and carry no cookies; Ordbro does not send the site any information about you.
Nothing else is transmitted. Ordbro does not collect or send your browsing history, identifiers, location or device information.
What stays on your Mac
Your settings, your API key, the cache of translated text and the Anki export queue are stored locally in Safari's extension storage on your Mac. The cache is limited in size and age and can be cleared at any time from Settings. Removing the extension removes this data.
Your API key is used only to authenticate requests to the provider you selected. It is never logged and never sent anywhere else.
Permissions
Ordbro asks for access to the sites you translate, to their subtitle hosts so it can read subtitle files, and to the translation provider hosts so it can send translation requests. It uses extension storage to keep your settings. It does not read or change any other website.
Optional Anki integration
If you turn on AnkiConnect, Ordbro sends the rendered card fields (which may include a source link you configured), deck, note type and tags to Anki running on your own machine, at 127.0.0.1 or localhost. It sends no full page text and no API key. Anki itself controls any later AnkiWeb sync.
Purchases
Ordbro Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles payment; Ordbro only learns whether the purchase is active and receives no payment details.
Children, tracking and advertising
Ordbro contains no advertising, no third-party analytics and no tracking technologies, and it does not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, including children.
Not affiliated with the sites it supports
Ordbro is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by DR (Danmarks Radio), YouTube, or any other site whose pages or subtitles it can translate.
